Parshat Shemot: Pharaohs
Last year, we had a great time doing a hieroglyphics project in honor of the beginning of Sefer Shmot. But, there are SO many great ancient Egypt art project ideas that this year, I decided to do something different - PHARAOHS. Kids love looking at different images of Pharaoh and ancient Egypt:
There are loads of great examples of Pharaoh (or King Tut) art lessons online. This is a particularly cute idea, using photographs of the kids:
But, there was no way I was going to get photos of all the kids so I decided to do a relatively simple Pharaoh project - that included lots of different materials and steps. I drew a pencil outline of Pharaoh's head, head covering, and collar and the kids had to do the rest. The five steps were as follows:
1) Draw eyes, nose, mouth, and outline with black marker
2) Add stickers to design the collar necklace
3) Use gold pastel to fill in face and collar
4) Use blue and yellow paint to add stripes to headpiece
5) Cut out the whole head so it is like a mask.
Overall, I really liked this project but like most of my projects would have been better tp be done over multiple classes and not shoved into one!
